Hi mudcat25,
Now I do understand it was stored bareroot in your basement during the
winter time and then transplanted in the ground.
If it were an edible banana, it could not survive the winter in zone 6 even if
was stored in that manner. Would Orinoco, Cal.Gold or Brazilian do it??

It could be an edible variety, but to me it looks like Sikkimensis considering
from the shape of the leaves and the color of the reverse side of the petioles.
Any way, it will soon be identified when it actually fruited.
