Hello mudcat25,
The species of banana that can overwinter outside in zone 6 is very limited.
Usually it is basjoo, sikkimensis and/or Helen's hybrid.
Taking a look at the bloom picture of your plant, the color of the bud is dark
red which means it is not basjoo, but sikkimensis or Helen's hybrid as the
color of the bud of basjoo is dark yellow.
Distinction between sikkimensis and Helen's hybrid is very much difficult as
the two resemble in many aspects.
Helen's hybrid is a hybrid beween Sikkimensis and Chini-Champa.
