Re: Dwarf Namwah cold hardiness
Hi Pancrazio
I suspect the smaller stems are stealing the energie for new growth from the mother plant to ensure their survival. Thats why the mother stem is behind her kids. I still hope for you...

Re: Dwarf Namwah cold hardiness
One more update. No pics this time.
Banana appear to be growing on all the stems.
Bigger stems are the slowest recovering from damage, while smaller ones appear already healthy.
The stems with the...

Second update.

Dwarf Namwah is quicker to recover than i thought, showing on the most advanced stem already 2 leaves, and putting out the third. By comparison, the...

Re: Dwarf Namwah cold hardiness
Honestly? I don't have the slightest idea.
The D. Orinoco should be a tiny bit hardier than the d. namwah. Still, it managed to die, despite being in pretty much the same place. My best guess is,...

[QUOTE=Pancrazio;284285]I see what you mean. Acute and extended damage are definitively two different things. I think that the key point is to have at least some daily temperature above 32F. I think...

Re: Unexperienced World of 29F/-4C
Here in Florida, we've been blessed with an unusually warm winter so far (knock on wood). Lowest temps have been 34F at my house near Orlando. Just harvested a huge bunch of Namwa and still have...

Re: Unexperienced World of 29F/-4C
Yes, even though I live close to the beach, we usually get a few low temperature morning hours every year with a canyon behind the house. So far I have not lost any banana plants to it (uncovered...

Re: Unexperienced World of 29F/-4C
A few mornings ago I had an hour or so of 30 which was also unusual and not predicted but it didn't seem to hurt my plants. I was lucky. I hope yours perk back up.

Re: Unexperienced World of 29F/-4C
As long as the p-stems were not hit by the cold, your plants should be okay.
We had some early morning temperatures down to 28F in December for just a couple hours two days in a row. It only...

They're all in pots. Was there no way to protect them? Lay them down and cover with a tarp or blankets? Or did you have no warning? Forecasts here in FL are as frustrating as they were when I lived...

Re: Musa Hajaray??
It probably depends which Pisang Awak variety. Dwarf Namwah bunches often have that look. Here's one where I removed the retained bracts, but you can see how tightly packed the bunch...

Re: Musa Hajaray??
IMO they are different bananas. Your bunch appears to be a normal looking Pisang Awak type, while the other has many differences, one that stands out is that it retained many of it's bracts between...

Both photos look like Namwah to me, just with different lighting and different growing conditions that affect the bunch size and finger shape.

No, unfortunately I do not.
And I think one reason you and I have given ourselves here: I was writing "cold resistant", you said "cold hardy". There is no consistent definition of these terms and...
