Malanga and eddoes are not varieties. Malanga isn't even taro. Taro is Colocasia and is Asian and Malanga is Xanthosoma and is south American. Some taro varieties are dry soil and others need wet....

I got some black malanga but its pretty small yet, wasn't planning to dig up and propagate until later this year. Looks cool, not sure on taste yet

Do an internet search for the best varieties.
First I grew this plant as in ornamental on the deck because it looks so much like elephant Ears.
The plant loves growing as a bog plant and takes well...

Did you get your PK to fruit over there in Gulf Shores? I reviewed all the posts about PK and everybody gives it a thumbs up for taste. Just hope it can flower this year!

I have Williams Cavendish which goes through winter here (33 degrees south) no trouble at all. Just stops growing during July. GM is a bit more intolerant

The bananas did not ripen before a storm blew them over and the Winters of 13/14 and 14/15 were brutal
BUT
the mat survived and is growing. I'll report if I get a bloom this...

It's really hard to say when they are that small, but it looks pretty Cavendish-y to me. I figure that for most varieties, you won't know until they have fruited, and even then you might not know.

Here in UK young holly trees are NOT PRICKLY the leaves will get points on when mature. I was going to say it's a holly tree/ bush if it's not it must be one of the family

Same here. Are the leaves prickly? They sure like they are. Are there berries? (Only 1 sex--female?--produce them.) Not all hollies are trees or shrub or creepers or even uprights...nor are rosemary...
