I and a few others have been looking for a source for Fei bananas. How possible would it be to get some corm to Florida?

Hiya Re: Unknown Variety in Port St. Lucie, FL

Orinoco for sure. But there are a number of different names used here in South Florida, these are best as a cooked banana but can also be eaten out-of-hand when very ripe.

They often produce small...

Hiya Re: Companion plantings for bananas?

Been growing pineapples for several years around bananas, with good success. Also Hibiscus sabdariffa (Jamaican sorrel). Here in south Florida I've seen a number of farmers growing papaya between...

Hiya Re: What type of citrus?

This looks a lot like what we used to call "rough lemon", which is a group of lemon-like citrus used for many years in Florida as a root stock for citrus grafting. We would occasionally get a sprout...

Hiya Re: World's smallest tomato

That's really small. There is a type grown in South Florida, particularly in the Keys, that is similar. I have not had any luck with them but I know a few people who grow them. Tiny seeds, too. ...

Hiya Re: Attention: HAWAIIAN GROWERS using the "Butchers Bar"

The most common problem (poor survival) is probably a result of separating the pups too soon. IFAS here in Florida (at University of FL) says it's best to wait until sword suckers have reached about...

Hiya Re: First Time Banana Grower ... need some advice

Hiya Re: City water vs well water

Our shallow well water is much much lower in iron than our deep (ostensibly drinking water) well. We don't drink it but use for everything else. If not treated it will stain the hell out of...

Hiya Re: companian plant for bannana

Agree, pineapples will do well, even without too much sun. They are slow growing though and might take 2 years to fruit.
I've also seen papaya interspersed between bananas on some commercial...

Hiya Re: Banana tree down

Depends on several things. If the pseudostem isn't broken, if the corm is mostly intact, I have stood up plants after storms, braced with a standard triple brace like you see around larger trees,...

Hiya Re: first papaya flowers. male or female?

It's probably too early to tell. Sometimes the first flowers seem indeterminate, they tend to drop off anyway. If you see many small flowers clustered together it is most likely male. I try to...
