velutina blooms pretty early every year at my house zone 9a but they are in ground. They die back each winter and return the following spring. your zone 10a? Musa like lots of potassium and it seems...

Sometimes we'll plant directly in the field and sometimes we pot them up. What is important is that they receive proper care regardless of where they are planted.
