Re: Maurelii

Don't know anything about this particular nanner - but can't you just cut off the foliage before transporting? Shouldn't take more than a couple weeks to have a mess of leaves again...

Be well,
Mike

Re: Indoor Grow Lights

I had a 30' long 9' wide 6' tall cattle-panel hoophouse with a single layer of glazing for a winter and even when the heater - a single 1500watt usually set on 750watt - went out a couple of times...

Re: Indoor Grow Lights

I'm not aware of your architectural layout, but a bright sunny window trumps electric lights any day. Tho - the lights can be used to suppliment the shortest days of winter. Nevertheless, nanners...

Thanks Joe! Would a basjoo die back in mild Zone 8 winters? These die back after the first frost.

Re: Grow Bananas in Zone 9 Types?

Excellent! I hope it works for you. Fortunately, nanners are fairly obvious about their status. If they're not doing good, they just don't grow. Wilting or drooping a bit in the heat of the day is...

Re: Grow Bananas in Zone 9 Types?

Whew, thought it would be something hard. First off - stop watering! When you plant the nanner you want to water *once* - then unless it's dry *more* than 2" deep, do not water! The roots are unable...

Re: $3,700 banana

Darn, I was going to put my mystery nanner up on eBay - I can use a new front porch... :)

Re: Grow Bananas in Zone 9 Types?

What are the conditions of the nanners you have that are dying? Did you get them potted, or as bare-root pups? Is the soil soaked or just moist? Shade or full sun? If it's not too far gone, you...

Landscape Nanner

I have a nanner rescued from my FIL's patch here in central Texas. It was there when he moved in and he's not interested in maintaining them so I grabbed one. It's your generic green nanner - it gets...

English Banana Books?

What books are out there specifically about growing bananas? A search of Amazon.com brings up endless list of books on cooking and some on general tropical plant cultivation.

Bananas Brindando Re: There will be bananas in zone 7 again this year

Bigdog - Please take pics of your new nanner grove! The first one was stunning and I also enjoyed your winter storage tutorial - I'm interested in seeing how they turned out after the move and after...

Re: How to make Bamboo kick stands

Thanks a million! I may actually be able to find some bamboo growing around here that I can use too. These'll look tons better than 2x4's.

Be well,
Mike

Re: Dwarf Rajapuri

My "rajapuri" looks identical to this. Got it from Aloha Tropicals. I bugged them about it and they sent me a replacement - that also looks identical. And folks, it ain't a rajapuri! Wanna know what...

Re: Red Jamaican surrendered today

Those are stunning pics! Look forward to seeing the progress on the Red. I like your bamboo cane supporting the flower stalk on the Apple - gonna have to copy it. :)

Be well,
Mike
