Re: Uncovered my Musa sikkimensis!
The sikkimensis seeds that are out there aren't generally sikkimensis. Just because a seed comes from a sikkimensis fruit doesn't mean they will produce plants like the parent plant. You have to take...

Re: Uncovered my Musa sikkimensis!
I used a few black bags of straw. All three of my plantings of sikkimensis psuedostems made it. Hopefully I'll get one to flower this year. I"ve never had a sikkimensis flower yet.

Re: Uncovered my Musa sikkimensis!
I'm in zone 6. Southernn Ohio. I have 3 different plantings in the yard. All come back each year. It's tough to find the plants out there. Apparently they don't tissue culture easily.

Uncovered my Musa sikkimensis!
Just uncovered my sikkimensis last evening. Looks like the psuedostems made it. This plant has been in the ground for 5 years now.

I uncovered some of my basjoos today. Planning on uncovering the rest tomorrow. Already have quite a bit of growth showing.

Re: Bananas stored dormant in basement dried out
I posted a pic in my gallery of the basjoos that I have over wintering in my garage. I keep the soil damp. Maybe watering once a month to keep them from drying out. This has worked well for several...

Re: Bananas stored dormant in basement dried out
Nate,
I've stored basjoo's over winter with pretty good success. You will get the outter layers turn brown. That's pretty normal since it's no longer photosynthesizing (if you have it in the dark)....

Re: The cold hardy list
I have 3 different plantings of musa sikkimensis. They have been in the ground for 5 years now. They are slower to start growing in the spring when compared to basjoo.
