Hey folks! Long time, no chat!

I have to dig up two big clumps of basjoo. I'm pretty sure I can just move them to a new spot even though it's October 7, but thought I would get other opinions. I've...

Re: First year Basjoos. Cut 'em or keep 'em?

Peeked under the tarp last week on a warm day. Saw green leaves all the way to the top. Glad it's been a warm winter.

Re: First year Basjoos. Cut 'em or keep 'em?

Growing plants indoors is not a problem, but sunny windows is. My only available S facing window is covered with cacti and succulents. My DC grows in the SW corner. It loses 50% of the bottom leaves...

Re: First year Basjoos. Cut 'em or keep 'em?

Aren't they a little young to go bare root in the basement? My thinking was there would not be enough 'energy' stored in the corm for that.

(Although that would let me plant them a little deeper...

First year Basjoos. Cut 'em or keep 'em?

I received 2 basjoos in mid August. They were planted and have grown nicely to about 2 feet tall with nice sturdy stalks about 1.5" in diameter. I was going to go with protecting the entire p-stem,...

Re: Bananas wasting away please help

Agreed, Mr. Olaf. It seems timmko's previous problem was not necessarily the amount of water, but whether or not his soil was draining properly. I follow the same course, good draining soil...

Re: Bananas wasting away please help

I can tell you now that they are not getting enough water. I soak my potted bananas thoroughly, at least once a week. The only time you need to let them dry completely is if they are going dormant,...

Re: ATTN: Sago Palm growers

Thought I would warn any cycad growers in the Mid-Atlantic to be on the lookout for stinkbugs attacking your sago. I had a beautiful new flush of 13 fronds a few weeks ago. About halfway to maturity,...

Re: Planting distances

Thanks, Olaf. I might just cram 3 of them in there for the time being. Then once they've established and grown a few pups I can thin the herd, transplant and expand the ranch!

Planting distances

I have run through many posts but can't seem to find anywhere that mentions how close together I can plant my new basjoo pups. I have one area about 8' long by 3' wide that I would like to form a...

Re: Getting Used to Outdoor Sun: Advice Sought

And fear not. While the old leaves will remain burnt, the new ones will come out just fine. Just keep it well watered and fed.

Well, not necessarily watered with well water but, well, well watered....

Re: Musa Basjoo & Colocasia for the new home

Rob: I definitely would have to dig them up in the winter. I plan to do that with all the elephant ears, non-hardy bananas, etc. Thanks for the tip! Maybe in the spring I'll remember to remind you. I...

Musa Basjoo & Colocasia for the new home

Hey kids! Sorry I've been out of touch lately, but things have been sort of unreal and scary of late. I would go into details, but it's a horror show. Why scare everyone else? :10:

Nonetheless, we...
