Re: Lots of long skinny pink worms

That's what I thought. They seem to really dislike soapy water - so I'm using that.

Lots of long skinny pink worms

When I water my potted musa basjoo. Lots of 2 inch long skinny pink worms come up for air. Do I want those in the pot or not?

Banana skins on Musa Basjoo

I started throwing banana skins on my Musa Basjoo about 3 weeks ago to keep off aphids from a nearby plant .

Must have had some benefit as I have a real big pup coming and the plant is growing great.

Re: 2 year old Musa Basjoo never had pups

It is in a big plastic pot. I can't plant in the ground - don't have any ground. I live in a second story apartment with a balcony. It lives outside all summer.

2 year old Musa Basjoo never had pups

My Musa has not yet successfully had pups. It has had 3 beginnings of pups that got to be about an inch high and then turned black and disappeared.

Otherwise it is a nice plant, about 4 feet high....

Re: To cut or not to cut that is the question

No, its very healthy (except for the mites and scales but I'm working on that) - I was just thinking that if everyone else's get cut down in winter and maybe a cut might be good for mine.

To cut or not to cut that is the question

I have a musa basjoo - 2 years old - always been in a pot - not very big about 4 feet tall - live in upstate NY - bring it in during winter.

Should I ever cut this? Like you would an outdoor basjoo?...

Basjoo - Got rid of mites - now have scales

If it's not one thing it's another. Got rid of my mites but now have scales. Right along the ribs and "veins".

I'm using soapy water right now. Any better suggestions? No poison please.

Re: So what is this?

I was wrong. I cut off a leaf and looked at its underside with a magnifying glass. It is spider mites! Gosh I hate those things.

So what is this?

This happens at least once a year. The leaves get first spots that eventually take over the leaf and then I cut it off because its gets yellow and ugly. Then it starts on the next leaf and pretty...

Re: Repotted Musa Basjoo - now droopy

Let me rephrase that - soil is still damp from repotting.

Re: Repotted Musa Basjoo - now droopy

Well, its been 11 days. I had to cut off 4 of its 7 leaves because they were "beyond droopy." Today the 3 that are left are getting "beyond droopy." The leaf that was coming has not done anything...

Re: OK, so I've got mites on my indoor basjoo

Didn't use any chemicals - just soapy water with a little alcohol. Washed leaves every day for several day. Flushed out soil 3 times.
