![]() This happens at least once a year. The leaves get first spots that eventually take over the leaf and then I cut it off because its gets yellow and ugly. Then it starts on the next leaf and pretty soon I have a stick plant.
It is a musa basjoo. It lives in a pot - outside in the summer, inside in the winter. The spots happen regardless of season. I wash the plant almost every day because last year it did have spider mites. None at this time. Humidity is 30-40% and it sits in a sunny window. http://i514.photobucket.com/albums/t...a/L1020790.jpg |

![]() Fungus, perhaps? If it starts getting bad from the central vein, you're looking at Sigatoka. If it's all over the leaf and doesn't have a focus, it's more likely some kind of mildew. A 5% solution of Copper Sulfate, applied as a spray when you start noticing the symptoms, will kill the fungus and keep it from eating your basjoos.

![]() I really doubt (Sigatoka) In zone 6 ... But you said you washed the plant alot & since in a cold climate try a sponge & wash the leaves for spider mites.... (spraying just puts more water on the plant)& back off of watering alot.... Summer time you can't water enough, winter time hardly at all..... Just remember that your humidity & temp. is low & your soil stays cold & damp for a long time........

![]() Yeah, spider mites are the worst! Well, I'm sure there are worse things, but in my area, spider mites are probably the worst pest we have to deal with (especially during winter). Definitely start treating as soon as possible and keep their numbers down!!

![]() I hate BORGS!
Use a product called Azatrol. Some people say its not the best for spider mites but I just got done fighting them myself and it worked great for me. Its $100 a bottle but the local grow shop re-packages it into 1/2oz bottles and sells it for $10 each, you dont need much. You mix 3tsp/gallon and use it every way possible, spray the heck out of it, sponge the leaves down with it and then once their under control you can even water with it once a month as preventative control, afaik there is no other product out there that you can use like that. |
