Re: Moving sale - bananas must go

Veinte Cohol, Gros Michel and Sweetheat all have tentative buyers.

No trades on anything else, life changes forces me to move to an apartment so I don't have any yard to put bananas into.

Moving sale - bananas must go

musa bauensis. Very rare banana, seed grown. I have two mats that are starting to awaken from winter.
Big one $150 plus shipping, should be able to be trimmed enough to fit in a USPS large box....

Re: Milky Way seeds

With all due respect Mr. Care, I shall state this again, publicly: I do not ship plant germplasm outside the United States whether it is live plant material or seeds.

Re: African Red: edible? is it Zomba Red or?

I have an African Red. The fruit doesn't plump up and the inflorescence doesn't produce pollen, nor will it accept pollen (I've tried with my velutina) so I'm presuming it is...

Milky Way seeds

Well looks like Milky Way produces seeds.

Whether they are viable and true-to-type remains to be seen though....

Re: Why Dwarf Cavendish is growing slow?

You don't have the moderating effect of the gulf being as far inland per your location map, so your mileage may vary. Here on the 8b/9a border south of I-10, I've fruited Grand Nain, Pisang Awak/Tall...

Re: Oh no!! I broke my banana!! Is it over????

Leave it alone in the ground and don't pull it out to check on it. It'll grow back.

Bananas are a lot tougher than they look. Heck corms can be shipped washed of dirt with the roots removed and...

For Trade: Musa 'Milky Way'

This corm comes from a mat that has bloomed and verified to be Milky Way. This is a hard-to-obtain cultivar. It has two psudeostems starting plus at least 3 more starting to swell.

It is up for...

Re: Giving my new banana plant a good start

I'm presuming it is a "super dwarf cavendish" you have if it came in a 4" pot. They top out at about 4 feet.

Re: Short nana?

Wait until it goes through at least two bloom cycles. Double Mahoi usually doesn't produce double bunches until the mat is mature. Cavendish subgroup cultivars are very frost sensitive though, so be...

Re: Short nana?

Those are likely dwarf Cavs, not Namwah. Namwah doesn't have the blood spots on juvenile leaves. I've never seen Namwah for sale at any of the big box stores. Seen double Mahoi though from looking at...

Musa 'African Red' blooming

Very good reliable bloomer. Freezes to the corm when the temps hit freezing, but blooms rapidly like Musa velutina
