I'm kind of a newbie, but I have a nice group of DC that are producing.
Is yours outside, or in a pot? It took my first outside planted DC close to 2 years to establish a mat. After that, the growth is explosive if you properly fertilize and water. My mat swords can shoot 3-4 feet in just a few weeks. Haven't done a potted DC, so can't really give you advice on that. |

You can search through the wiki and find some options. There are a few that are hardy to 8b/9a. Even more options as you go 9b and up.

You don't have the moderating effect of the gulf being as far inland per your location map, so your mileage may vary. Here on the 8b/9a border south of I-10, I've fruited Grand Nain, Pisang Awak/Tall Namwah, Dwarf Brazilian and Raja Puri. Orincos are common across the gulf coast and fruit well. (The other fruiting varieties I have are pending experimentation.)
Basically you want something whose psudeostem is thick enough to survive a brief freeze without turning into mush.
