Re: South Florida Bamboo Farm

Re: Coconut cutting time

How are you composting your palm material?

I started a mini-pile of fronds (not coconuts) from some of the misc. palms in my yard. Seems to take forever to breakdown. Any tips/tricks?

Re: Making Compost on the Cheap?

Just buy a new, or use an old, plastic garbage can with a lid. Much cheaper.

You can drill holes in it if you want. I haven't drilled mine and it is doing fine. I take a shovel or a stake and...

Re: What did you plant today (other plants)?

This is my first try at Sweet Potato so I'm not sure what to expect. I'm hoping I'm not planting to early or late for South Florida. I ordered these so long ago that I had just about forgotten...

Re: Equation needed please...

Word of caution - both solar and wind are highly dependant on your location, wind especially. Doesn't make sense to plunk down $$$ on a windmill to not get enough wind.

Re: New Pup?

Had the same thing happen not too long ago. Stick it in a pot with the pointy part out...will take awhile but it should grow.

Re: Removing Pups?

I've got an Ice Cream banana that has two pups on it right now and it's still growing like a freight train. +/- 6' tall to the point where the leaves are coming out and that's less than a year's...

Re: 2009 veggie garden

You should be able to buy untreated 2x material...give you a little more piece of mind, that was my reasoning anyway. Sure, the treated will last longer but untreated lumber will last a few years...

Re: Removing Pups?

http://www.bananas.org/f2/time-separate-pups-spring-1814.html Check out that link.

From what I've read, it's optimum to keep one main plant and 2 pups at staggered heights. Say, one pup half the...

Re: 2009 veggie garden

I don't know what your nursery guy is talking about with yards. A cubic yard is what I'm talking about and is the standard in the dirt industry (i.e. construction). Length (ft) x width (ft) x...

Re: 2009 veggie garden

That's pretty much how I started mine.

But, 2 CY of topsoil is not going to come close to filling in a 10 x 40 x 1 raised bed. 5-10 bags of compost won't put a dent in it either.

10 x 40 x 1...
