Re: Looks like I may not receive my order from Florida Hill Nursery.

I have a chance to get a Blue Java this summer. My local H-E-B grocery store had about 30 of them. They had them in sky blue 3 gallon pots and I thought that was odd so I went and looked at the tag...

Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

Roger that. I really like mine. I know Canada gets cold, but maybe you can make it work. It is one of the more cold tolerant, but like me, you’ll have to winterize it there for sure.

Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

Sounds like you got it figured out. My Dwarf Namwah is my fastest most vigorous grower. It smoked my Dwarf Brazilian and Cavendish. Highly recommend. :-)

Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

Seems like frost cloth is better than other options, because the plants can still breathe, get light, and get water. Never used it before so I don’t know.

I’ve seen some guys completely wrap with...

Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

Mine are heavily mulched too. How much did that frost cloth run you?

How long do you run them?

Re: Best winterization method for Zone 9?

I know the Basjoo would probably do fine in Zone 9 because their super cold tolerant. I don’t have any of that variety though.

I have Namwah and Brazilian which should tolerate pretty good, but I...

Best winterization method for Zone 9?

Just curious on the best way to save my p-stems for next spring. Wondering what materials everybody is using- who need to winterize. I’ve seen a lot of different ways, but I’m not sure what works the...

Re: Which fertilizer is best for bananas?

Ok, I will try that tomorrow. I need to install some edge guard around the plants. The St. Augustine keeps coming into the mulch. Today I took the weed eater and made a 6” ring around the plants....

Re: Which fertilizer is best for bananas?

One last question. If you fertilize with liquid or dry pellets for that matter…how big of a ring do you lay down? Last time I fertilized with liquid, I did a 6-12” ring around the base. I’m thinking...

Re: Which fertilizer is best for bananas?

That’s a lot of stuff to mix. Is it cheaper that way?

Re: NPK ratio- Why nobody agrees on this?

Edwmax…thanks for all your input. One thing I’m confused about is that if a plant only uses what it needs.

I had several plants that I over fertilized with liquid. I got very light colored leaves...

NPK ratio- Why nobody agrees on this?

When I search for a good banana fertilizer nobody agrees about the proper NPK ratio. I find this really odd. I want to try a pellet fertilizer for a while to see how I like it.

Why isn’t anybody...

Re: Looks like I may not receive my order from Florida Hill Nursery.

Both my Dwarf Namwah and Cavendish were labeled correctly. Not sure if they're dwarfs, but I'm sure of the variety, because I have two larger plants to compare to.

Re: Looks like I may not receive my order from Florida Hill Nursery.

Since this thread resurfaced...I need to post an update on my TC's soon. They didn't really do much in the shade. They were frail, slow growing, and the leaves were small. As soon as I gave them some...

Re: Please Help Bugs ??

Could be those white grub worms. I haven’t had them attack my bananas yet, but I’ve literally seen them take down some flowers, shrubs, and other plants very rapidly. One day the plant is thriving...
