Re: Unknown Flower
I cut back all the frost damaged leaves from the winter, then the flower emerged. Obviously it's not ideal, but I had no idea it was going to bloom.
Gabe, can you tell me what lead you to that...

Unknown Flower
I picked this out of a pile of roadside debris. It has grown the fastest out of all my other bananas and is the first to flower. I've tried to identify it on my own, but I'm not sure which parts of...

I'm growing in Foley. I planted several varieties last March that I ordered online. Got my first flower last week on an unknown variety. Nice to know there's a fellow enthusiast in the area, I'll be...

Re: 2018 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida
Nice job man. This is your first harvest, right? You'll be getting bunches and bunches from now on. I dont think we actually had a hard freeze here this winter, for the first time since I moved here...

A flower in February
I cut back my winter damaged leaves today and discovered a flag and an emerging flower! My concern is, without leaves, will the flower have enough energy to fully form bananas? Will the pups...

Re: 2018 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida
How'd those bunches hang through Hurricane Michael? My bananas were leaning one way from TS Gordon, now Michael has them leaning a different direction. Ground is too dry to straighten them now. Hope...

Re: Banana Circle Critique
Looks good! Banana circles are a lot of work to install, and maintain as I'm coming to find out. However they do provide a convenient central location for mulch and watering. Consider interplanting...

Re: 2018 Banana Patch: Pensacola, Florida
It's been plenty hot lately. Heat advisory a few days in a row now. Your banana's proximity to the pool is probably creating a nice microclimate. I'm rooting for you man, if you can get a ripe...

1. I completely agree that the maple and fig are too close. I had two thoughts about that. Allow the maple to form a canopy layer and the fig be an understory (providing that the...

The competition, yes, I was wondering about that. Honestly I didn't expect the zukes to get so big so fast. I want the bananas to thrive, but I'm torn between nurturing them or a more Darwinian style...
