Default Golden Rhino Horn Banana

Is anyone growing Golden Rhino Horn? Is it even real? I see that Willis Orchard has them. They also have “Pineapple” Banana. I’ve read that the Pineapple is fake (re-labelled Rajapuri). I did a search on this site, and can’t find anyone growing Golden Rhino Horn.

Thanks!

Not sure about golden rhino horn but I have the pineapple variety. Doesn't taste like pineapple at all. Supposedly it is a variation that formed from Raja Puri tissue cultures. Maybe it tastes different from Raja Puri but I can't tell. I can send you both plants if you want to compare taste by growing your own.

I purchased a Golden Rhino Horn from Willis Orchard last fall. I also purchased Ladyfinger, Raja Puri, Gran Nain and Ice Cream from them too. Overwintered everything in a container and then planted them all in the ground in March. I'm hoping for a mild winter this year and fruit next year so I can confirm the varieties. From my experience so far, the Rhino grew at about the same rate as the rest and only but up a couple pups this year. The descriptions on Willis say it will get up to 20 feet tall, but mine is probably only 8 or 9 feet now. I'll be sure to post updates next year during the growing season. This has been my first attempt growing banana plants so I'm pretty excited and anxious to see if I can get fruit.

I suppose that ‘Golden Rhino Horn’ is likely same as ‘African Rhino Horn’ (which is itself a newly made up name from its original, which Im working to figure out...getting close).
However, judging by the photos and information on bananas on the Willis Orchard website, I wouldnt totally trust you would be getting what you order anyway.

When you figure out the African Rhino Horn, please make a post about it. I have a mystery banana, which I got out of Puerto Rico, that I suspect is the African Rhino Horn. It was sold as a “red”, but did not wilt during the recent days that we had in the upper 30’s. I’ve scoured the wiki here, and it’s the only plant that matches (pre-flower and fruit).

Hi
I need some information about the Rhino Horn banana. Does this plant tolerate cold well? I have heard that it grows in the snow in the mountains in Africa.
