Re: ID a Palm

Thanks for the thought. I was bouncing between it being a Jelly or Triangle, just wasn't confident with one or the other

Re: Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

Since some people were asking about the pots I thought I'd post a pic of the bottom of them as well as how the root system responds to the shape and air-pruning holes on the side

This is one of my...

Re: Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

Thank you. I had started integrating it as an experiment and maybe this is the end product: failing plants

Re: Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

I switch between cloth pots and these air pots. I prefer these for growing over winter since the pots ait above the tray, reducing the chance for any algae or mold growth.

I'll see how these pups...

Re: Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

Ah, yes. I added it to one of my soil mixes as an experiment to see how everything reacted. You could tell the soil held onto water a lot (too much)

Re: Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

I buy them from my local gardening store but you can get them online as well

Air Pots (http://air-pot.com/garden/)

You referring to the lime I've added?

Yeah, these pots are a favorite of mine...

Re: Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

Trying to upload photos but the limitations on the site make it tricky to do from my phone.

Alright, cooking with gas. This is in a tent with a 1000w bulb, so the temps around it are generally high...

Re: Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

Mix of Fox Farm Ocean Forest and my own compost of house scraps (egg shells, coffee grounds, veggies, sticks, leaves, ...). In the past I have used some extra nutrients like Grow Big but I have...

Re: Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

It's in a tent and the humidity is pretty good in there along with a few fans to help circulate air. A few times a week I go nuts in there with a spray bottle

Re: Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

The other leaves have heavily dropped now as well and the entire plant appears to have gone south. There are two pups, however, so I guess I'll be raising some Basjoo pups

Basjoo - thin and curled leaf just folded

So my single Basjoo didn't do much over summer. It more or less just sat there in my yard and grew a leaf or two, but that was it. So, I didnt feel comfortable overwintering it in the dark corner...

Re: Dinosaur Food!

Because "Dinosaur Food" and "Giant Rhubarb" are both common names for the plant. Look up "dinosaur food plant" or Gunnera seeds

Re: Proper care when first getting a TC plant from grower?

I look for Ace to be helpful, at an elevated price, but certainly not the place to go to buy a variety of banana plants :). And I certainly wouldn't expect the employees to know hoa to ID them

Re: Proper care when first getting a TC plant from grower?

Because they're focusing on profit over product. They're buying stuff super cheap and holding onto it a minimal amount of time before selling it off. They aren't hardening the little guys enough,...

Re: Proper care when first getting a TC plant from grower?

Two weeks is probably fine. Just don't have them over cement or anything that gets super hot in the sun as that is when I've found burnings to happen more frequently.

Re: Proper care when first getting a TC plant from grower?

I'd follow sputinc7's advice and just erect some form of a sun block. Hell, even some cheese cloth on stakes would probably do the trick. Basically you just want them to focus on root growth for a...

Re: Proper care when first getting a TC plant from grower?

Water them enough to keep the soil moist, but not drenched. Depending on your specific environment that might mean once every other day or once every three days or once and hour for 10 seconds...

Re: Question on Potted plant

I'd get a slightly bigger pot, and maybe something that breathes better like clay or an airpot (http://air-pot.com/garden/) and for the love of everything holy to you replant that thing pointing...
