Re: What is blooming in your garden today (other plants)?

After success with hedychium coronarium, last year I bought about 10 other varieties of hedychium. The first to bloom is Hedychium Giant Hybrid Yellow which was a surprise because it is the largest...

DCPTA (2-diethylaminoethyl-3, 4-dichlorophenylether)

It's a Chinese plant growth regulator that I bought on Aliexpress about 5 years ago. I sprayed 0.5 g/gal on corn and canna and it improved the growth rate and size.

Re: Would you ask the seller to replace this Tropicana Banana?

I would look as healthy as the Little Prince banana that was shipped in the same box.

Re: Growing banana plants from banana fruit without seeds.

Simple way:

HydraFiber is Great but

You can't buy pure HydraFiber retail. You can only buy it retail in adulterated form from manufacturers who pretend that adulteration is added value. Imagine a world in which you can't buy pure...

Re: Heliconia Indica "Spectabilis' Progress Report

It's doing okay but nothing to brag about. The leaves shown above died and there are two new stalks, none with variegation.

The leaves are cupped. So are the leaves in photos from elsewhere. As...

Re: Chloroform Improves Tomato Seed Germination

There are two conflicting hypothesis to explain why chloroform improves tomato seed germination:

1. As a solvent, chloroform removes growth inhibiting substances from the seeds.

2. Residual...

Re: My Greenhouse Experiments with Light, Cooling and Temperature

You have to bear in mind that I'm 76 years old and in chronic pain. If I were young, I would build a swamp cooler which simultaneously cools and humidifies air. ...

Re: My Greenhouse Experiments with Light, Cooling and Temperature

I have a dehumidifier in my basement and it uses about 600 watts of electricity to remove 3 gallons/day of water. I really hate what it does to my electric bill. I sometimes collect the water for...

Re: My Greenhouse Experiments with Light, Cooling and Temperature

I was thinking about something like this:

200 pints/day = 1 gallon/hour

Re: My Greenhouse Experiments with Light, Cooling and Temperature

I don't use the heaters in the summer and I don't want extra humidification in the winter because the extra moisture would end up as extra condensation on the inner surface of the polycarbonate...

Re: My Greenhouse Experiments with Light, Cooling and Temperature

Yes, and there are also high pressure spray atomizers, but, if you don't use distilled water, you get residue on everything. I don't mind getting this residue on leaves but I don't want it in my...

Re: My Greenhouse Experiments with Light, Cooling and Temperature

Re: Test Your Coir with Corn Seeds

No, that's all there is.

I am using coir for tomato, musa and heliconia just fine. There is no need to test coir for these plants.
