That’s awesome!
It also looks like the original stem recovered and is shooting out a new leaf
Did you get it from this years plant group Hawaii restock?
The one I bought from eBay last year never really took off, I don’t think being stuck in the mail for a week did it any favors

Yes, I bought it from PGH but I had trouble ordering it. Within one minute of getting an email announcing that 6 rhizomes were in stock, I tried to submit an order but PayPal wouldn't let me compete it and said that the seller doesn't ship to my address. I took a screenshot of the message and sent it to PGH asking what is going on. About a week later, PGH responded by emailing me a PayPal invoice for the plant.

It's doing okay but nothing to brag about. The leaves shown above died and there are two new stalks, none with variegation.

The leaves are cupped. So are the leaves in photos from elsewhere. As I remember, the first plant that I saw circa 1960 at Garfield Park Conservatory (Chicago) had flattened leaves. Maybe, it was a slightly different heliconia than the one sold today. The chief horticulturist said that they bought it as heliconia 'Edwardus Rex' from Julius Roehrs in New Jersey.

Most of my other heliconias look terrible because of leaf spots which I suspect were caused by edema but none died.
