Re: Will trimming lower leaves help basjoo?
From my experience I have seen some improvement on growth. I also do it for a tall "tree" like look to them, and help expose sunlight to emerging pups below. Yet on other basjoo plants it never...

Re: This is why you cover ur plants...
Ya those roses might have had some damage but hopefully the snow shielded them from the harsh open air. Up here we also have a lot of vineyards near the lake. Usually the lake gives a milder winter...

Re: What to expect? (replanting bare root basjoos)
Unfortunately this experiment did not go successful. Due to the extremely cold prolonged winter of -30 F temps, a 25 week indoor dormancy and cold spring I lost 12 of 15 plants to heavy corm rot and...

Re: Are my Basjoos dead?
From the look of the pics on the outside they look gone, but everyone is right, underneath all that nasty dead material should be a firm bright looking corm when you start inspecting cutting into it....

Re: New guy with annoying question
Welcome. Basjoos are rather tough even the small ones starting out and tolerant to chilly temps at night that are close to freezing. A good rule of thumb is to watch when the temps fall into the 30s...

Re: Can bananas cause damage?
I grew some Mekong giants last year, the runners they sent out aren't too invasive for a young plant. they sent out about 3 runners each. When dug up they look similar to what a daikon radish looks...

Re: spider mites
Spider mites are definitely a nuisance. soapy water and the insecticidal soap works well. In my opinion though, spider mites are inevitable when growing indoors. They multiply like crazy, travel from...
