I have them to I just keep washing them away because I have no clue as to how to kill the creepy little buggers.

I just notice some on my SDC so I used my "Safer Insect Killing Soap", but some just use slightly soapy water to keep them down. It is harshly dries out their exoskeletons. Poor little things

Be persistent with your treatments and do your soil also.....these guys travel.
Sevin works as well as most other insecticidal treatments.
Currently using Bayer Complete.
Use a couple drops of detergent as a sticker

My brugmansia get these....ugh

I use the safer miticide also. I have found it can really damage some plants if spraying weaker indoor growth, especially papaya and ee's which are mite heaven and always seem to be the first plant invested. It also damages new growth on trees, like avocado, citrus, and can damage a cigar leaf on banana if it is just starting to emerge. What I do with small plants is take then into the shower and then spray with safer II, let sit for 15 mins or so, then shower them off with a strong blast. Prevents damage, kills the mites, and then blasts them off. Repeat a week later and they're gone. Really big nanners and such I just wear gloves and whipe down the leaves with paper towel and the safer II spray. Make sure u get in the petiole channel well, especially where the petiole meets the leaf blade; this is where u will find mites on big nanners first. I hear sevin works well but there has been some concern about its safety. I am not able to get it in canada. Soap, vegi oil and water works ok but u pretty much have to use it repeatedly to keep them under control, it never really kills them all. Next year I think im going to go really heavy on the predators, its likely the safest most effective route. Cost was a concern b4 but spray ain't cheap!

I took it outside and gave it a good seven bath and let it stay outside in the sun all day. No sign of the lil buggers today.

i use bayer complete also.thats why i asked how much he is treating.i dont know enough about inside use of this product.do you know how much is safe inside?

I do not alter the dose.......however I will spray my infected plants in the shower ..... repeat also in the shower a day later +-.

Take them behind the barn ......whatever works .
Nuke them....
I truly have issues with mealys ,fungus knats, and mites....sometimes it ain't all good in the Natti

Tonight.....I took a number of tree ferns out in the yard and sprayed them for Mealys.....I have at zoo the moment....

Try using Bayer's systemic products , they make one for fruit and vegtables and one for tree and shrubs Much more effective long term on sucking insects.

I used a systemic last year on my brugs and a couple on bananas. Your are right the stuff does work well. Gotta get some more.

Since my bananas don't fruit I just used off the shelf ......I think it was a Bonide brand systemic.

Ferns do not tolerate systemics or certain petro based insecticides,
Certain death to the plant is sure, trial and error there.
The Bayer Complete(imidacloprid) formula seems to work so far for the "go to" product for my tropical plants.

I am a firm believer that insecticides should be used with common sense and should target a chosen insect, I never like to see collateral death to other untargeted insects.
I have a foodchain in the yard to keep intact for the critters/birds

My problem waz just one pot in t he house, it has a DC in it as well as tropical gold canna, The canna started looking real bad....that is how I found the lil buggers. I tried the insecticidal soaps( from Menards ) they did not work. The DC developed a huge black spot near the top ( rot ) I removed the affected leaves and sprayed with liquid seven and left it out in the sun for a few hours.....other than a little sun burn they seem fine

I had them in a lemon tree in my bay window. The sun showed up and so did they so I mixed some powder hand soap and water. Now I have creepy dead bugs but it is still to cold here to put them out to wash them off.

Spider mites are definitely a nuisance. soapy water and the insecticidal soap works well. In my opinion though, spider mites are inevitable when growing indoors. They multiply like crazy, travel from plant to plant rapidly and have known to grow a tolerance to the soaps in a couple of weeks. This year I didn't bother combating the damn things and after 5 months of growing indoors my basjoos are not noticeably bothered by them. Of course visually my leaves are drier and not as vibrantly green as they would be mite free, but they are in no terms "dead" or incapable of supporting the plant. Once your plants are back outdoors you'll notice 99% of them are gone and the problem is gone. I think the mites will die when exposed to much higher levels of UV rays the sun gives off, consistent high humidity, and also the vast amounts of other critters that naturally eat them during the warm months.
