I made mine the exact same way. I glued the pieces together using pvc glue and used a cheap length of structural pine instead of a length of pvc pipe as a support as it was cheaper and seems strong...

the pstems are amazingly soft and easy to cut through. I would not use a stanley knife and cut them like that you would easily cut into the next layer doing damage. I just use good scissors and cut...

Thats totally normal for TC plants. Some set something up to shade them during the hottest part of the day or move them in and out of the sun I didnt do either.

I have purchased 2 TC plants so far....

I'm not using potting mix they are in the ground. Thanks for the pics. I've noticed the pups grow a bit different with each of the species I grow and your definitely correct practice brings...

Good idea I did have that thought but didn't end up doing it. Ill pass it on and the leaves might get cut off. Thanks for the tip ill definitely do that next time.
