Re: Fruiting in container

The only time I had problems with roots poking through (well trying to) was when the pots were directly touching the ground, but it wasn't a problem. Also the pots drain the water out of the pots...

Re: Fruiting in container

I really like the fabric pots. While there's no proof, my guess is that with the air pruning that the fabric pots do which encourage new feeder roots, I assume that this will only help the banana...

Re: Oh no!! I broke my banana!! Is it over????

Looks about right given the four weeks of 40-50- degree rainy weather and no sun we have had.
Once the temps get into the 65-80 mark the plant should react better.

Let the soil dry out a bit...

Smile Re: Fruiting in container

I use a lot of these pots and prefer them to in ground planting because they shorten the vegetative phase and keep the tall cultivars much shorter. They work great for plantains and that's what's...

Re: Oh no!! I broke my banana!! Is it over????

Do exactly as Cinci says cut it just below the bend. Do it very soon so it doesn't get stuck.

Smile Re: Oh no!! I broke my banana!! Is it over????

Cut the stem at the break/bend, do not try to save the plant above the crease.
This will only cause a choke and your plant will suffer.
The plant will sort itself out in a few weeks.

This is normal...

Re: Alternate between container and ground?

You say that you want to transplant it in "summer months" which is after June 20. That would be correct because soil temperature lags air temperature by about a month and the growth rate of banana...

Re: Alternate between container and ground?

If you are thinking of transplanting to a bigger pot now and then outside in a month don't. You can add some extra dirt on top but you don't want to dig it up and shock it twice in that time frame.

Re: Alternate between container and ground?

I wouldn't repot. When planting from pot to ground I find it helps to keep an intact rootball. Being rootbound holds it all together best! If you don't break roots or the rootball when planting...

Re: Grow light recommendations?

Wrong. The topic of this thread was determined by the OP who did not ask for "sustained indoor growth of bananas through the fruiting stage." For your convenience, here is the original quote:

Joy newbie here and need advice.

If you have time and patience, hand wipe the leaves with soap solution.
Those nasty little buggers and get to be a problem. I have the same thing with my citrus trees.

Happy Holidays:goteam:

You last post mentioned a grow light, so I wounder if the light might have caused this problem; too hot, too close. Did the leaf browning occur outside or after being put under the light?

I have...

Re: Am I burning my banana?

How often are you applying the 1/2 cup of fertilizer? How big is the pot and how big is the plant?

The pot looks to be 8 or 10 inches and the plant about 12" or so. Is this correct? ... If...

Look under the leaves. It looks like you may have a mite infestation.

I just found a site that I consider to have the least expensive cfl bulbs, for instance, a 68 watt 6500k cfl sells for about 15.00, anywhere else, it's 22.00 and up. It's called 1000Bulbs.com..Hope...
