One of my newest Banana plants

I was able to hand select this one near Waipio Valley and I'm pretty happy with it.

Re: When is the right time to bring bananas outside in zone 6? I'm SO torn!

When I was in central Illinois, I put them out in buckets when the nights were out of the 30's. (Had to bring them back in from time to time, temporarily.) and in the ground about now, mid May.Cold...

Re: When is the right time to bring bananas outside in zone 6? I'm SO torn!

I moved mine all outside couple days ago.
I watch the night time temps. Had 2 nights in the mid to high 40's but most nights are now going to be in the 50's or higher.
Was cloudy today and will be...

Re: When is the right time to bring bananas outside in zone 6? I'm SO torn!

I live in zone 6 missouri and I just set mine out this weekend. Lows in the upper 50s to lower 60s aren't bad in my opinion ,plus take in to consideration the micro climate that they may or may not...

After my first over winter with banana plants, I managed to lose two plants (both grown indoors, attacked by bugs and then rotted) but two plants did survive. Additionally, the Basjoo that I left in...

Re: Is this a banana pup? It can't be, but I think it is!

It's funny the harder you try the worse they do. If you don't want them to grow or expect them to grow they grow like crazy. Bananas love to rebel. :discocrazed:

Re: Why won't this thing grow?

I bought a DC around the same time at Lowes; I chose it because it had a pup. I'm glad I did because the main stalk died--leaves were green and healthy looking but the base was rotten. I've since...

Re: Cavendish are out of the greenhouse

You name it, it is our 15,000 gallon pond. I started to grow the bananas to screen the greenhouse from the view of the pond. For the record we grow and ship pond plants all over the USA.

Re: Brought the bananas up from the basement.. HELP!

I wouldn't worry too much about cutting away any dead stuff, if there is living tissue in there it will grow through all that just fine and you might end up doing some damage. I'd pretty much echo...

Re: Brought the bananas up from the basement.. HELP!

Try this mix. Works well for me and I grow in pots. 40-50% coarse sand, 30-40% garden soil (the cheap one they sell in bags will do fine) and 20% composted manure. I used a mix of cow and sheep and...
