Default Tiki Hut

Can anyone tell me what i can grow on the sides of my carport roof to make it look kinda like a Tiki Hut? I have Grapes on one side but my idea of letting Grape vines take over i guess was not such a good idea! So now im back at looking again! PICS SOON TOO POST!

Basjoo would be a nice look I believe, and some Sikkimensis for color.

I was thinking along the lines of some tropical hanging plants or some type of vine! I will be putting on a GreenHouse type clear roof on carport for the extra SUNLIGHT!

Don't forget to give the grape vines plenty of room. (At least 8 feet to either side) Keep them in shape by pruning each winter. If you don't prune each year, pretty soon, they will grab onto your banana plants and then you'll really have a mess.

Cover the roof with thatching and let the grapes grow along the sides.

BTW, Happy Birthday!

Personally, I'd thatch the roof in old banana leaves (see, they do have a use after they've gone all brown and shredly), then grow bamboo at the corner posts, and intersperse with bananas and passionflowers (which you can train to grow the bananas). Except you're in zone 6. So I guess it's Morning Glories all the way for you.

And I'm surprised, if you can grow moonflowers, that you have a problem with sweet potatoes. Go fig.

I don't know much about the bananas, but I know about tikirizing....Personaly nothing looks more tropical than banana palms and elephant ears! Oh yes and bamboo.and a flowering vine...I have been making our tiki area gradually over the years. Some stuff is always so expensive so I make some decor.and I try to stay away from the super cheezy luau decorations......inexpensive must have are paper lanterns, and fun lights, and tropical signs are a must.. ill post some pics over the season with my creations..
We travel to the caribbean a few times a year and am always inspired, and I'm always bringing back something for the tiki bar,, and tiki lounge we have. It's something you collect over the years.
My collection is missing a 6 foot tall tiki god carved into a dead palm tree trunk....one day i'll get it though....
