I VERY seldom post in the Tiki Hut, but this is one thing I thought I would share as I can remember all these things. Anyone else?!?!?

Is it odd that I remember many of those things even though I wasn't born until a good 20-30 years later?

Young punk....... It was an easy time as I remember, less cars, less high rise, lotsa of jungle, when your parents take a drive to the countryside they have to stop the car to let big pythons cross, and you can even take a rod and line and catch catfish from the drains, no need for air cond cos it wasn't hot then, Elvis, Beatles... 'nuff said!

I think the biggest thing I remember was leaving the house and not coming home until half past dark. Wouldn't dream of letting my kids run around all day not knowing where they were like that. And that was when I was walking or riding my bike. We used to go across town to the state park and swim at the "blue hole". Man, how I miss those days!!!

Thanks Randy! I remember going out and not coming back till dark as well. No cell phones ,we just found our freinds. All my time was in the woods or playing sports except for when Jonny Quest , the monkees or creature features were on.

When I think of those days, I try to pinpoint the events that changed them. The cultural influences that caused the current trends and attitudes, the growing welfare state and near abandonment of traditional family values. The sad part of it is that there is no turning back.

Perhaps this is the perennial gripe among the aging population. Now I understand what my grandparents and parents were saying. Throughout time, aging generations have lamented the changes deemed as "progress". I believe that I had read comments written by Aristotle concerning the excesses of youth. When I first read it in college (a million years ago) I laughed at it. Now, I appreciate the observations of this brilliant philosopher.

Isn't it odd how perspective changes perception? I am enjoying the discoveries of these perspective changes. My mind is reforming ideals and goals, priorities in life and my outlook as to what is important. A good analogy might be Tiger Woods golf swing. He had completely changed his swing from when he won his first Masters Tournament, but now is better than ever before.

I really wish there was a Drive in with a digital projector and broadcast the movie sound track over FM. When the movie audio is on the FM, I have every excuse in the world to buy high end amps and speakers for my car. LoL I remember watching Jurassic park so loud in a freinds car that we had to wear ear plugs and made the hole parking lot sound like a enclosed movie theatre.

Hotwheels, Stingrays, Big Wheels, Slinky, cap guns, slot cars, skateboards with clay wheels and ball bearings, rubber band guns, water rockets, taking yourself where you need to go without supervision no matter how far from home, Silly Putty(I still remember that smell), STEEL Tonka trucks, pedal cars, mini bikes with lawnmower engines. That reminds me, I'll have to post a picture my mom sent me recently of my uncle sitting on his new Bull Taco mini bike (that became mine) and in the background you can see one of our old convertible Corvettes. Those were fun times!

I wonder what will the kids growing up now will say in 30 years?

Swimming in the river or the dam, and no-one knowing where we were all day! Falling off our bikes and getting bitten by dogs, sucking hailstones, dressing cardboard dolls in paper dresses with tabs to keep them on, begging dry ice off the ice cream man and burning our fingers with it. Haha! good times! And drive-in movies with all the kids running around in the dark.

Yeah! That was the last time I went to a drive in, but no the drive in did not have digital projecton at that time frame.

Do you remember Creepy Crawlers? And Floam? Floam was awesome our fox terrier got into and ate some once. Mom swears he was pooping green but I do not rememeber that at all.
