A very large moisture system is moving into the area. It's currently about 50 miles offshore and the party (rainfall) is expected to start about midnight. We could get our entire annual rainfall (7 inches) over the next few days.
Most of our municipal water supply is not local. It comes from both the Colorado River watershed and central CA. The former is doing fine but the latter is currently at about 35%. That's bad news for California's agricultural belt. For us, it means about 70% of "full" levels. We've been getting by on 80% for a number of years now.

Got 1.3" inches of rain last night here in Ventura. That was a big bump in this drought year. Hopefully more tonight and tomorrow.

You fellas along the west coast are going to get real wet, you got a big one brewing.
We are going to get ours 6 to 12 inches of snow Sunday according to the talking heads, they don't know yet. Last edited by cincinnana : 02-28-2014 at 03:28 PM. |

It's stormin-normin right now with temperatures in the 50's, barometer at 29.8, and wind gusts in the 20-30 mph range. So far we've had 2/3 inch rain.

We've had 3.6" of rain in Ventura in the past two days, after 0.8" for the entire rainy season up to that point. Boy did we need it!

![]() ![]() I know that we need the rain in SoCal, but the storm has blown over my La Verne Ice Cream (I bet it is a Namwah) which has a big inflorescence. Darn, two years lost .....Sad and mad. |

On the bright side, next time you see 20-30 mph gusts in the forecast you'll prop your naners for sure!

It was laying on my garage roof, so kind of propped...I usually prop as soon as I see the first hand of bananas, but they were just not there yet. Has anybody ever transplanted a banana plant that had been blown over? It blocks my front door right now and has to go somewhere, but the question is if "somewhere" is the compost pile or to give it a try to replant at a different spot.

Thanks. Have tried it this afternoon and used PVC pipe on the p-stem the way I usually prop my bunches ( with a 45 degree elbow). If it works I will just have to support the bunch with even more PVC pipe, but I refuse to give up. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

We have hot "Santa Ana" winds coming from the east at 5 mph gusting to 20 mph. I might need to turn on the air conditioner this afternoon.

Yup, 87 degrees, dry and windy today and yesterday. Even after all that rain last week, had to water the stuff in pots today.

Me too - watered all the plants today. Sitting out on the patio at 10:30pm, it's in the high 60's.

It's 10pm and 70F. Quite a scary proposition for the summer at latitude 33.2.
