Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
Nice fruits, Dean!
Ok JaNan, here are your three mystery varieties again so you can tell them apart. These were those whitish ones with the purple tips. Some of them are ready to eat! They get more purple, and then turn yellow, orange, and finally red... These ones are just green and then red, but I love them... This is the "jigsaw" pollinated with "black pearl"... Looking forward to some of them ripening. : ) |

Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
Yes and what's more amazing is that all three plants are together in one single 6 inch pot!!!
I've learned over the years that rootbound pepper plants produce the best crops and highest yields. This is surely proof. In fact I couldn't even fit all the peppers into one picture...they're just everywhere. I'd have to say it's my favorite pot of peppers this season. They just look so cool all in one pot like that with three different kinds of fruits! Do you want seeds for any of them? Let me know... Too funny how people on that aero-garden site go on and on about how indoor peppers and tomatoes require hand-pollination! Not one of my plants were hand-pollinated and just look at all the fruits I've got! I've set them all straight now though and some have been in total amazement. Do you believe they've all be running around with paintbrushes, trying to pollinate thier pepper plants! See how one idiot can tell people something like it's a fact and have the whole site believe it! Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups! Anyway, I'm glad you're as amazed as I am JaNan. Thanks a lot for sharing such cool types with me, even though you didn't know you were! : ) |

Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
Agreed!
I think I can really see the Black Pearl influence on the variegated one. On my monitor the peppers look almost a chocolaty black. I love the white and purple tipped, so pretty. That is the same color changes that the Marble does I believe. I am anxious for you to taste them and see what the flavors are like. I'm trying to post, but if I am gone suddenly you will know it is internet issues! ~J

Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
Yeah that is just hysterical, JaNan. I've been giggling to myself picturing them all running for the paintbrush the second a new blossom opens!!!
Yup, I'll be letting you know soon, exactly how they all taste... Yes, I like the chocolately look of those too but in different lighting they are quite purple...like when sun shines on them. Those frosted purple tipped ones are way cool and I can tell they're some type that's been pollinated with 'marble' because of all the colors. Oh and here's the two potted 'black pearl' plants today, starting to develop their crops... : ) |

Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
Great stuff, JaNan!
Ok here are my new seed-grown "Aurora" pepper plants today... They're in an east window but the leaves would be more purple if they were in my south window. I still love them though. Aurora is my most favorite hot pepper. There are already buds present! : ) |

Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
Sherry, this is Momma Marble. It does have quite a few fruits but you can see not nearly as much foliage. And you can see how petite the leaves are knowing the size of the fruit.

Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
I really think it's that intense aero-garden light that's making the leaves so dark on all my pepper plants in there...because the ones in the windows aren't nearly as dark...accept for 'black pearl'.
I don't think Marble is suited for the A-G though, if you wanna see lots of fruits. Mine missed it's crop entirely and only put on a couple, although the foliage is stunning. The 'little blue' plant right beside it put on a whole whack of fruits though. Some pepper varieties are fussier than others. I don't want to take it out just yet though because I'm afraid of losing it. I love it too much to let it go or remove it yet. Nice plant though JaNan. Thank for showing me the momma. : ) |

Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
My "little blue' plant is packing on lots of new blossoms...
The fruits are so pretty... Oh and I have another pot of a bunch of mystery purple varieties and some are producing fruits already. I think this one might be "little blue"... : ) |

Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
I finally got my hot peppers garden dug up and planted and i have 102 but only 5 kinds and 1 is a sweet pepper. im putting those in another garden.
These are the ones im growing inside under grow lights. left to right = Jalapeno Early, Ring o Fire Cayenne, and Cubanelle. Im still going to plant the Red Habanero, Anaheim, and Poblano pepper seeds i dug out of peppers from the store and see what happens and im doing that today! I had too many other plants i had to take care of. this is how my indoor hot peppers look today. =) Edit = I just planted those last 3 hot peppers and there were tons of seeds! [IMG][/IMG]

Re: A thread for hot pepper-a-holics...
If you cut the tall one back, it would fill out more and if they had better light they'd already have peppers on them by now...but a very excellent first attempt you've made, if I do say so. Do you know which type they are?
Why don't you put them outside? That tall one will require staking at that height but if you choose to cut it back, it'll become more stocky and dense. Putting them outside and giving them at least 6 hours of sun a day is a must if you want to see more than just leaves. Nice job though. They're very healthy looking and you're getting some pepper-growing experience. : ) Last edited by The Hollyberry Lady : 06-18-2011 at 12:19 PM. Reason: damn spelling!!! |
