I have several different hostas. In most cases, we grow them for their foliage, and don't pay much attention to the flowers. This one, however, caught my eye.

Considering the size and color of your bloom there I would have to say that is a plantaginea. Royal Standard also has white fragrant blooms but they don’t get as large as plantaginea does. I have both and even though the plants are very similar I like the looks of the plantaginea better.

Thanks, Jane, for the info. The flowers are all about that size, but there's usually only one in bloom, at a time, and they don't last very long. The rest of the stem is either buds, yet to bloom, or spent flowers. I have one, with plain green leaves, that is quite fragrant. This one might be slightly fragrant. The leaves are light green, with about a half inch cream color margin, around the outer edge.

The light green with cream margin sounds like Fragrant Bouquet.
If you like the white fragrant blooms and want another good growing hosta give Guacamole a try. It has a darker green margin instead of cream.
There are so many different hostas out there one just can’t keep up. But if you are growing for foliage and want size with big leaves then Sum and Substance or one of it’s many sports is what you should get.

Though nowhere as large as yours, John NY, my white-flowered hosta as intensely fragrant. I have no idea of the cultivar as this was a passalong from my aunt decades ago. If any of our hosta experts can ID it, I'd be grateful.

Howard, I have one that is almost identical to yours; white flowers, very fragrant, solid green leaves and, also, a pass along, many years ago, (from a neighbor) The one in the picture is one of several TC's that I have purchased from Agri Starts, in the past several years. Somebody mentioned. "Fragrant Bouquet". I don't remember that name, but it's possible. I'll have to get out my records, and see which ones I bought in the past few years.

Well John I would have to say that your hosta sure looks like “Fragrant Bouquet”. And the size of the flowers say so too. But I’m no expert. Take a look at the pictures in the hosta library and you can judge for yourself.

Howard, the foliage of your plant to me looks like “plantaginea” but the size of the flowers make me think it’s “Royal Standard”. Do you know what time of day the flowers open? “plantaginea” is the only evening blooming hosta I know of. Bloom scapes and seed pods are another way to tell the difference. Let me know if you want more info. And like John take a look at the library and judge for yourself.
