"Maiden Rose" Pelargonium beginning to bloom in the back sunporch this week. Took this shot today...

My "Devil's Backbone" cutting that's thriving this season. Love the signature zig zag stems...

"Connecticut King" lilies thriving...

Freshly snipped "Amythest Beautyberry" cuttings. See the little flower buds already? My shrubs will be loaded with berries this season...

Guess what this is?...

Nope, that's not it, guess again! :ha:

I'll give you a hint...

It's produces edible fruits and it's from Beth.

Passiflora Quad. ?

The Hollyberry Lady 07-08-2010 11:23 PM

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

Nope, but a good guess Tony, and I can see why you picked it but it's not a passiflora.

Another guess, or shall I tell you? Maybe this close-up will help...

It's going into my garden tomorrow...

Last guess coffee

The Hollyberry Lady 07-09-2010 08:03 AM

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

Good guess, but it's not coffee either. Ok, give up? It's a Tamarillo tree. It will produce fruits similar looking and tasting to tomatoes. Can't wait to try them.

Here's my blooming Easter Lilies this rainy morning...

Thanks for your good guesses, Tony.

Is this a geranium ? I have one that looks like this I got a cutting from my sister I like it great. You sure can grow some nice plants ! Thanks I really enjoy your pictures

The Hollyberry Lady 07-13-2010 06:39 PM

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

Thank you, Greg! Glad you enjoy the shots. :waving:

Yup, a Pelargonium is a Geranium. Mine is called Martha Washington "Berry Swirl" and they survive great in a cold sunporch over winter and even bloom! I have three different kinds.

Here's some green Hollyberries from my new "2 in 1" female "Blue Princess" shrub with a grafted male "Blue Prince" branch, eliminating the need for two shrubs! I have two already but bought this one for a friend. Said I wouldn't ruin the surprise by showing the whole bush until they receive it in the mail, but here's a few of the green Hollyberries...

They look like they'll turn red very soon...

Couldn't resist and bought this gorgeous purple fountain grass...

Just transplanted it into my garden this morning, but took a few shots before I did. Isn't the plume pretty? I'll take more shots later when more develop...

One of my "Black Velvet Rose" geraniums in the ground...

Solanum Seaforthianum "Gloria" vine, now outside too...

Those are the same as my Blackberry Lilies. They are blooming right now. The heavy storms have unfortunately felled many of my plants, including these. Next year I'll be buying tons stakes in anticipation. They are a gorgeous bloom. Congratulations!

Howard...

Sorry to hear about your plants getting ruined!

: (

Do you know if "Blackberry" Lilies are the same as "Toad" Lilies? Or are they two separate plants altogether?

Are they called "Blackberry" because the seeds looks like little blackberries? Curious...

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

Totally different plants. And indeed, they are called Blackberry Lilies due to the look when they seed. Toad lilies are tricyrtis, and Blackberry lilies are belamcanda. Both simply beautiful plants!

The Hollyberry Lady 07-23-2010 08:28 PM

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

Thanks a lot, Howard. So Toad Lilies are different! I want some of them as well. :ha:

Sherry, your collection is outstanding. I see why you are called the Hollyberry Lady. I don't have much luck with indoor plants due to low light. Only my kangaroo ferns don't seem to mind.

Gosh thanks, Howard...and Seth!

So you can see why I'm called The Hollyberry Lady, can ya?...

Just sent a huge "2 in 1" female/male Hollyberry shrub to a pal in the US yesterday and it was super tough to pack securely. Sure hope it makes it safely and undamaged...

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

Oh my gosh you have the greenest thumb around, I so love Holly, had it growing in my front yard when I lived in southern Oregon, that and an Oak tree in the neighbors yard full of balls of Mistletoe, oh well. I shall relive those times through your pictures, they are the best, you must have a lot of space for growing there! :goteam:

The Hollyberry Lady 07-27-2010 11:35 AM

Re: The Hollyberry Lady's Plants and Flowers

Thanks, Penny & Joan!

The shrub you guys commented on is called "blue princess' and it is a hybrid variety paired with 'blue prince", known for being one of the most prolific berry producers of all the hollies! It's parents are "blue boy" and "blue girl" which are lovely specimens also but the female isn't quite as showy nor abundant with it's fruit-set as the "blue princess" is.

I enjoy the hollyberries over winter against the snow because they're so cheerful and pretty, but they're stunning in summer too. The bluish holly leaves are very appealing. Brings back fond childhood memories for me as well as many people. Remember the coloring book with the green holly leaf and the berries, you could color?! :ha:

My mom kept a gorgeous female shrub by our backdoor that always had berries on it no matter what time of year - "Blue Princess". "Blue Girl" is nice but she has periods where she is without fruit. Still love both types but "Blue Princess" is my favorite...

Yes Joan, I do have a lot of growing space here - both indoor and out. It's about the only reason I stay here anymore, but I won't be here forever. Heading back to the Maritimes someday...

Thank you again for your great efforts!!!

You dwarf pink Bottstein Hydrangea is absolutely adorable. I thank you for teaching us in the org all the "How to"s. Please continue your great efforts in writing the blogs or posting beautiful flower pictures of yours.

Looking great Hollyberry but, I think mine's a ways off from getting a bloom.
I'll post when it does though.

I disagree...

Once that thing gets going Bob, it'll produce some buds for you. It grows fast too, just give it a shot of fertilizer and lots of sun. What a cool vine. So attractive...

I am bursting to see the purple blossoms and the dangling clusters of berries...

Sherry,

Can't wait to see your beautiful Gloria Solanum Seaforthianum bloom in purple...

By the way, I recently visited your photo gallery and saw some prettiest tulips. You have shown us some great shots of your lilies in this thread, but I don't remember seeing photos of those tulips.

Such a YOUNG and ACCOMPLISHED gardener you are... Bravo!!!

Sherry- I gave you an incorrect name. It's actually Cryptanthus bivittatus, also known as Pink Starlight. Sorry about that.
