"Dream" Atemoya tree
Finally! after a long wait, I received my grafted "Dream" Atemoya tree thru the mail yesterday (04/14/2016)!.....Beautiful and nice little "Dream" Atemoya tree!....This variety of Atemoya is not introduced commercially yet!.....
From the internet: "Dream" Atemoya tree introduced by Wayne Clifton from Bradenton, Florida which reportedly fruits quite well in FL, with out hand pollination!....Mr. Wayne said he collected the seeds from a "true" Cherimoya (Annona Cherimola) about 10yrs ago, from Peru (not scions I believe), and that he grafted the seedling onto an Atemoya rootstock. Also the tree survived a 19 F temp drop with no problems!.....It fruits in clusters!.....Also is reported to taste incredible, and make large fruits!..... Pictures taken on 04/14/2016 Well packaged; Just added some bone meal and perlite to the organic potting mix soil..... 'Dream" Atemoya tree trans-planted!......I will keep it in a 3 gal. pot for at least a year then to the ground!.... More updates coming soon!.....

Re: "Dream" Atemoya tree
Nice pick-up... it has been a slow grower for me but it looks like mine might finally take off this year. I am getting a good amount of flowers too, which is tempting but I might let it dump all its energy into vegetative growth.
Please keep us updated on your progress

Re: "Dream" Atemoya tree
I'm confused. If it's Cherimoya grafted onto Atemoya rootstock, doesn't that make the fruit Cherimoya?

Re: "Dream" Atemoya tree
There is some debate as to whether the original plant was a true cherimoya because the leaves aren't characteristic of a cherimoya. The fruit however looks like a cherimoya. Maybe the fruit that the original seeds came from was cross pollinated.

Re: "Dream" Atemoya tree
^+1 ... i just realized that i had dirt/mulch over the graft union, but quickly removed it. thankfully no damage, but the trunk was moist which is not a good thing.
here is a pic of the one i picked up early last year... please forgive the weeds. i also forgot to take a pic of the flowers.

Looks good! Dream is the best tasting cherimoya/atemoya I have had in Florida. Flavor and texture are great and there aren't many seeds. |

Re: "Dream" Atemoya tree
Looks like your little tree is doing very well. It will grow big and be loaded with fruit before you know it.

Re: "Dream" Atemoya tree
walkinbeam, Here is an update!....... Dream Atemoya has been growing great!....In the beginning it was kind of a slow start, but once the Dream Atemoya tree got established, it just took off growing!....Lately, has been branched out very nicely!.....Right now is approx. 5 1/2 ft tall and keeps growing very nice!..... Picture from 08/03/2017.....
