Default Banana Pot Size/Rapid Growth

Hello Banana Experts,

I recently bought a small dwarf cavendish (I think?) seedling, and put it in a size six pot as the instructions said.

It started to grow very rapidly and now has four pups growing with it. I'm a bit concerned that these are growing so close together and they will outgrow the pot soon. But I don't want to re-pot something that's growing so well.

Would it be a good idea to re-pot everything or at least some of the pups?

Yes, put it in a bigger pot. Keep the soil on the drier side. You don’t want to overwater in a big pot. That’s an easy way to get root rot.

Thanks Bill.

Would it be wise to move the pups into other pots? I was under the impression it was too early to separate the pups from the main plant.

From what I've gathered from advice from other growers and research I've done on the plants personally, it should be fine as long as when you separate the pup, you separate a piece of the rhizome with it so it can continue to use it's little banana brain to keep growing.

Make sure it is in a well draining soil like many people on here suggest.
