Hi everyone,
I am a graduate student at North Carolina State University studying black Sigatoka disease. I would like to collect some samples of diseased leaves from different places around the world. I am getting some samples from Dole plantations, but I would like to also get samples from peoples' backyards. Would anyone be willing to ship some diseased leaf parts, or depending on where you live, would you be willing to let us come and collect some? Thanks so much!

Right now my permit is good for samples from Costa Rica, Honduras, Fiji, Bolivia, Brazil, Panama, Jamaica, Netherlands, Cameroon, Kenya, Uganda, Africa, and the Caribbean Islands, but we could update our permit to include other places too.

I had terrible black sigatoka at my previous house, but don't have it at my farm. During the summer I have some stuff that looks like yellow sigatoka. IF you come to South Florida I know we have it at various locations.

Thanks, Nicolas. I asked my professor about it and she said that our permit right now doesn't cover collecting from within the United States, so she is looking into getting that changed.

Last year I received some infected plants from a notorious exotic plant nursery in north San Diego county. I treated them first with Agri-Mycin to kill any vectors and a few hours later with Kocide (Copper Hydroxide) and that was the end of it.

Hi Rick,
I looked at your picture and it's not Sigatoka. Is it mostly showing the marginal (along the leaf edges) necrosis, or are there a lot of those spots like on that one leaf you took a picture of? The marginal necrosis makes me think it's a physiological problem. The only thing that makes me think it might be a pathogen is those spots, but if there are only those 3 and none on the other leaves, then I think your problem is probably not a pathogen.

You suggested it might be the fertilizer, and I agree that it looks like it could be fertilizer burn. Did you just stop fertilizing since then, or did you do anything else? If all you did was stop adding more fertilizer, I would go a step further and flood and drain the pot a couple of times to remove as much excess fertilizer as possible.

Hi.
I've made picture of only two leaves as example but the burn along the edges is a common trait of almos every leaf while the little black spots showed only on the pictured leaf and maybe another but it coul be a burn too.

I stopped to fertilize it since then but I used a heavy hand previously with fertilizer so with that small pot, I think the plant must have been fertilized for all of his life....
Luckily in the next month I'm going to repot in the open and in a very big pot, so hopefully we'll se if the damage is due to fertilizer or fungus...
