![]() I have no idea, some wild bananas are not easy for me to identify.
This member was able to identify the variety from just looking at the seeds. ![]() Growing Acuminata Colla Variegated Quote:

![]() Ask Gabe, I sent him a bunch of seeds a few years ago and he's probably been able to identify them. If you find out let me know.

![]() Sorry about that, I had too many projects going on to find and collect the wild seeds and when I do find them it's usually after they germinate. The prices suggested are more than reasonable.

![]() Very beautiful plant. I want one. I see some yellow in some lower leaves. Does it maintain the bright yellow on all leaves.

![]() The yellow does remain bright on the older leaves. This photo is a terrible representation of how bright the yellow truly is. I had to wait until the sun completely dropped behind the mountain so it would block any direct sunlight on that leaf before being able to get a photo that was in focus. If you look closely you can see that the plants in the background are still in direct sun.

![]() Thats sort of like Butia palm seed here. If you collect the seed and put in a tray to sprout you get ok germination but if you just let them fall on the ground and let nature take it's course or if you throw the unsprouted seeds away they sprout like crazy.

![]() A few weeks ago I found this variegated seedling growing alongside the road and decided to bring her to the farm. She's recovering nicely from the move.

![]() Oh the times in my life I have glanced a possible interesting plant while driving and turned around to investigate. But in a rear view mirror. You have me beat on that one. Very cool.

![]() All pending seed orders were shipped on Saturday 2/24 and are being delivered today, Monday 2/26.
I would appreciate that anyone starting a thread about their seed progress please post a link on this thread so myself and other members can easily find the information. Thanks

![]() Got my seeds today! Thank you PR-Giants very much for distributing these rare seeds to our members here. Already have mine soaking in rain water, in a insulated cooler, on a heat mat set for 88F. Timer turns heat off for 7.5 hours which lets the cooler slowly cool down to 72F. Will change water every day for 3 days then plant shallow in lightly packed mix. Unless someone else suggests better temps for germination or a wet / dry regimen or any other recommendations I will continue this treatment.

![]() Nothing here yet. Should there be some already? I think banana seeds are very sleepy. I put mine in a moist well drained mix and placed the containers in a large aquarium, with a vented cover, and on 3 different levels with a heat mat on the bottom of the aquarium. No group sets directly on the mat. The heat is set for 91F but it only got to the mid 80"s F for the 1st weeks. I then added a small incandescent light bulb to assist the heat mat. The timer cuts all off for 7 hours each night so the temps inside drop to 72F. When the heat comes back on it takes a little while to get to the max temp.. They are near a south facing window so sun partially strikes the aquarium for a 2-3 hours each day but the temps then only go to 97F. The three different levels of placement means each group gets slightly different temps and moisture levels. The top group of course dries out quicker.
Hope others will post their methods so we all can see what works. |

![]() Forgot to mention. I soaked my seed for 3 days in clean warm rain water, changed with fresh rain water each day. Then after planting have only re-watered with clean warm rain water.
