Default Windowsill growing.

My basjoos, in the ground, get covered up for the winter. The basjoos that were in pots, outside, are stored, bare-root, in garbage bags, in a room that gets to about 50° F. Everything else is kept growing, either under lights in a warm cellar, or on windowsills.
Here's a Dwarf Cavendishgrowing happily in the dining room bay window.

Shortly after bringing it in, it gave me two nice little pups.

Every plant looks happy in their winter home. My banana plants are bare root in rubber maid bins in a corner of the garage in front of a window. I keep dry compost over the roots to keep things from drying out too much.

I fill up the bay window for the winter, and the floor in front of it.

I am still adding plants everyday to it also!

Thank you! My rooms kind of all have themes, I guess. This one is called the stuffed animal room! HA! HA! And of course I have horses in ALL the rooms. I will try to take a shot of it tonight when I get all the lights on. All those little bananas seem to love it in there. Each one has put out one and sometimes two leaves since I brought them in there early last week. ~J

My cats would have the ones on the floor shredded by now.

Lucky you glad its working!

I have been keeping all of mine in my warm basement (65f or so) near a casement window with 2 overhead 2 foot fluorescent grow lights on long timers and Mine are really fading fast... I am thinking it might be too warm for them with not enough light. I certainly cant afford to run a 400w hps during the day all winter.

Question Re: Windowsill growing.

What do you do when your window is overrun with plants and your bird thinks he's in a jungle?!

Smile Re: Windowsill growing.

Here's my Siam Ruby plant, growing in my south window. It's suprisingly red for this time of year...
