Unhappy What is this? Help

Hello all,

This’s my first post here and am quite amazed how active the community is so here’s my issue and I would appreciate your help on this.

I received my Musa AeAe as a gift last week and today I noticed a black area on the lower end of the trunk and its a little bit mushy.. I know it maybe a rot or a bacteria but I thought I might ask.. Am not quite sure if the size of the area has increased since last week but I took some pictures of the area:

Thank you for the clarification, the plant is potted in Coir with a little bit of soil that I might be changing (any recommendations?)

A soiless mix that is light and airy for the roots to establish.
If you use organic fertilizer or mycorrizae you may lightly use it .

Your mix should look similiar to this fluffy mix.

Click the photo link to see more soiless mix photos for your new musa.

Post a photo of the whole plant if possible so we can see its health.
What soil did the seller recommend?

Thank you for the recommendation. Actually I couldn't get a hold of the seller sadly.. But I will do my best to learn about the care requirements and being here posting and reading other threads will expand my knowledge regarding this amazing Musa

I snapped these photos today please let me know if you notice anything (I moved it to this spot for the photo )

And the lovely roots:

Oh.. Excuse my question, but how did you tell the difference between them two? Is it the variegation?

The A'ea'e is a triploid 'AAB' and the Florida is a diploid 'AA'.

'A' stands for acuminata and 'B' stands for balbisiana.

Check out the second one down, petiole canal.

The Florida is much nicer than the A'ea'e.

If you want another variegated banana the Musa Nono seems popular now but there's many other variegated ones like the Musa Moto Ebanga and Musa Moto Mo Liko.

The Musa Nono is spectacular. I might add it to my collection, and if I may ask, why is the Florida is nicer than the A’ea’a? Just curious
