![]() I had just brought in my banana plants to keep indoors for winter. They were all nice and green leaves to start with. Now a couple of leaves on one or two of the plants are looking a little funky. They now have a yellow-ish color to them. Usually that means too much water right?! However, I have only watered them twice since they’ve been indoors. I am only using peat moss. So it’s not like I have drowned them in water. At least I don’t think so. I would think that they would be under watered. What do you think? Do I water them some more and then cut off yellow leaves? Do nothing? Thanks in advance...

![]() pics would help .... usually plants that are over watered, the leaves will turn yellow & brown more slowly starting at the outer edges.

![]() Could mean that they are fading out, which is normal for the oldest leaves. Could be an indication that they need more sunlight. Could be a sign of under watering. In San Diego right now it could be a sign of 100F temps and no humidity. Etc.

If possible illustrate some photos is you can? Here are some of the looks your plants will have as well as many other concerned gardeners.. this is ongoing till spring. This is predictable and happens annually. Even if one brings the plant indoors with inadequate lighting the plant will still show signs of decline. For me...... this happens to many of my plants Here is a link... https://flic.kr/p/BYtGcL Last edited by cincinnana : 10-16-2020 at 07:20 PM. |

![]() It means winter is on it's way, even if your winter's are mostly above freezing.

![]() One more thing... I just noticed that the plants are not getting enough light. I do have 2 windows in that room. I only am using 2 thin white covers on the windows for privacy from neighbors! I forgot to get and use my grow light for some of my smaller plants. Can I just use my ceiling light to give the bigger ones a chance at some proper light source? I thought I read that on another thread somewhere. Thanks!

![]() That looks like a root problem. Quite possibly rotted roots from over-watering.
Anything that causes rapid root loss, over-watering, gophers, etc. will cause this.

![]() Does this mean that they’re going to die off then? What can I do to prevent that? Thanks again...

![]() Their growth will slow or they may go dormant until the warmer weather returns. Then it's game on again.

![]() Where exactly are you? Do you live in a dry climate? Yellow can mean too little light or too much water or just leaf is old.
