Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
That is what I thought too. But I also wonder if my banana fruit is not properly filling out due to lack of nutrition? In any case, I will take whatever guess anyone can come up with and I will do further research to confirm~

Like Mark, I'd say Orinoco. That was my first thought too.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
My guess would be Orinoco also. They look like Orinoco and the stiching on the edges of the peel is an Orinoco trait.

One question though, it is normal for Orinoco to have small hands like this? I am reading up about Orinoco and found it is sometimes called Burro banana, and the Burro banana fruit I have seen in the store are gigantic.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
An updated photo of my banana harvest, one week of ripening indoors. Sweet with slight acidity, very thin skin. I love it!

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
Well, I don't know what they are! Thin skin is not Orinoco. But the shape of the fingers looks all wrong for Namwah.

I found a site talking about taste testing in Africa somewhere among locals and it scored high. Almost 18 months.. Mid length on time. It would likely take longer here in central Florida.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
How about Veinte Cohol? They have a thin skin and tartness... Manzano (Apple banana) plump up and split when they ripen on the vine... Or did you pick them green? They just don't look like Manzano. Or VC for that matter...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
I did harvest them green this time. Last year, I left them to go yellow on the plant and there was no splitting. It was sold to me as Ice Cream, was mislabeled, honest mistake I think, but I have a tough time getting cultivar identified still.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
I was very impressed with the F-17, certainly not up to the quality of a Cavendish but better than every Gros Michel I've tasted.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
Probably the most impressive bunch I've ever harvested.
70 lb. with the top 3 hands packed with 13 oz. fruit.

PR... You prefer Cav over GM? I loved the GM... (Not as much as Paggi.. they were awesome flavored, but no good for commerce as they fall off when ripening.)... To me, GM taste like the best Cav ever only they are all like that. Make the best banana bread, too. Namwah... Blech. Might hafta get me a 17...

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
I've only had FHIA-17 that were overripe (with freckles) and they were terrible at that stage, to my tastebuds, anyway. But that is not a fair taste test.

I think I might post on the other section of the forum to get others to chime in too. The plant first planted in May of 2014. Close up of first flower in 2015. Close of of the bunch from the flower. Ripen bunch on the plant from the previous photo. Flower from early 2016. Same flower a little later. Photo of the whole clump this year.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)
First harvest of a plant given to me as Ele Ele. However, it doesn't grow like any other Maoli types. The fruit seems to be in between Popoulu and Maoli types. More starchy at the same stage of ripeness vs. a Maoli. Overall the taste is similar. Who knows what it really is, but the plant is very purple/black.
