![]() That always happens. You go through a period with no ripe bananas and then 3 bunches ripen at the same time. Then you share with friends, family, strangers on the street…

This has happened to me several times already. Two bunches will ripen at almost the same time and you end up with more bananas than you and your family can eat. Delaying harvest is risky because bananas left attached to the stem too long will split. Growing bananas is like feast or famine but it is so fun! |

![]() The bananas from that broken tree started turning yellow. Maybe Williams. Definitely some kind of Cavendish. I'm just glad they started to ripen. I think I will just harvest the fingers when they turn yellow.

![]() It's funny that you say that......we were thinking just about the same thing. ![]() Last time this mat had two flowers at about the same time, the bunches were ready 3-4 weeks apart for whatever reason. I thought it would be the case again. Boy was I wrong. This time the mat had a total of four ripening bunches prior to this harvest. The other two definitely need more time to fill in, but we shall see. This is easily the most productive variety in my yard. I would be curious to know if that's the case for most other folks. |

![]() my namwa (bought as an ice cream also) does the same thing I had almost 200 fingers that ripened with in 4 days of each other. My mat had 6 bunches hanging at one time, down to my last 2.

![]() [IMG]
[IMG] [IMG] The last big rain storm broke our Pisang Klotek in half, but we were able to safe the bunch which was about #36 after only 4.5 month hanging (photo 1) Concerned about the first nights below 32F, we harvested the beautiful bunch of Dwarf Namwah last weekend at #35 (at 5 month) While other people were partying on New Years Eve, we were watching the thermometer dropping to 30F at 10.30PM, so with a flashlight, ladder and knife we decided to also harvest the Blue Java bunch (can you call us "crazy for bananas"? ![]() So we do have #100 of bananas ripening in the garage now. Have already tasted the PK and they are super delicious. Dwarf Brazilian and another BJ bunch are bundled up and protected with solar bags, hopefully no more cold nights. |

![]() Thanks. The ones on my Dwarf Namwah are usually half that size, too. But even on these taller namwahs, this bunch was exceptional. I'm not sure why. They ripened faster than normal, too. Maybe having the bunch hanging over the driveway while it was maturing kept it warm and happy.

![]() I harvested some namwah a bit prematurely so family could taste it while down in Florida. Very interesting differences from letting it fully ripen on the stem. The fruit is noticeably less dense and the intensity of flavor is reduced however, the flavor that is present is much more reminiscent of raspberries. Not necessarily bad things, but very different from fully ripened. Makes me wonder about other fruit I've harvested a bit early.....
