Don't worry. Soon enough you won't be able to get out of your house. ;) And your experience will give rise to a new story: The tale about Ante, who started the jungle. :0517:

Once one on a bunch has ripened, the remainder will ripen indoors in a paper bag within a week.

Not bad? So is that better than store bought? I have a GF and I can't wait till I get some bananas on it. That will be next year but I still can't wait. If they are at least as good as store bought I will be more than happy.

By the way what caused the splitting, does anyone now? I didn't think GF did that.

Even the green ones that did not split while still on the plant, split after ripening .

Do you have any friends with Tortoises?

Tortoises love to eat raw banana blooms (we pass them a long to a friend with a rescue reserve for turtles & tortoises).

No one I know with a tortoise, maybe I should adopt one.

Re: What did you harvest today (bananas)

We have gopher tortoises here in So Fla -- Gopherus polyphemus.

Many times have come home to see one crossing the street. Carefully drive over or around them then pick 'em up and carry them to the vacant lot they were headed to. They are big and move kinda slow.

Gopher tortoises are known as a keystone species. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission states that the gopher tortoise provides refuge for as many as 350 to 400 species. They live in burrows.

I'll remember to save the banana flowers from now on for these guys. Thanks for the info.
