Well, just thought I would give an update to my VC. The corm never did produce a pup, so I dug it out of the large pot and it is black, but fairly firm. I will be leaving it out in the open to see what it will do. Probably nothing, but hey, you never know. The three pups at my friend's greenhouse all collapsed also and thought it was hopeless. Well, my friend came by today and gave me a pot with a 3" tall pup rising out of the ROT!!!! I never thought it would come back, but hey, I get another chance with it!!! I will defintely be digging it up sooner and potting them up at least by the first of August, no matter how tall or short they are. BigDog, got anymore room at your special greenhouse??? JK... I will update when there is more to report...

I saw your post....I was just keeping quiet! When mine came last fall, it was rather small, too. I overwintered it in an unused bedroom. It grew very little, but stayed alive. It is planted outside now.

I still wonder who got the other two that were originally slated for you.

Thanks for responding, Joe. You have just confirmed my worst fear. When you say that what you got were small, were they smaller that what I just got?

As far as the other 2, they could have been sent to others who may be unrelated to our forum.

The one I got looked about identical to the 3 in your recent picture - small but healthy.

I don't know if yours didn't get held or not. I suppose it is possible that they did get held for shipment now, since mine didn't grow much over the winter. And they trim them off for shipping - if you trimmed mine down, it would probably look about the same size as when it arrived. I'm out of town now, but will try to get a picture when I get back home.

I thought you changed your mind and got immediate shipping last fall?

I was extremely tempted to call their bluff. But I just thought that it would be like shooting myself in the foot. A case of "Damned if I do and damned if I don't" situation. If I got them back then, who knows if they could have survived the winter here. Now I wish that I had (called their bluff).

No conspiracy against me, huh???? If that is representative of what they are shipping to buyers, I wonder why, after waiting 7 months, then after that, graciously giving them the chance to please other customers by postponing my delivery for another 8 months, they would then send me those 3 puny little pups that I finally got. I will never understand what they have against me. The last VC that I have left is still Small with no sign of growth. The same is true for the other 3 new pups that I got from them, 1 week before the VCs - Small and no growth either. I hereby rest my case . . . . . . .

I don't know if that's representative of what they are shipping most of the time or not. Maybe I got lucky and I would have been happy with one of the same size they sent you as well. And I do not think they had any conspiracy against you. Please drop it. I don't think it's making you feel better and it's sure not added any value to this discussion. I was reluctant to post a photo of my pup because I was worried that it would upset you but had hoped you had gotten over it. I think you'll be getting some nice pups before the end of the year anyways.

I got my VC plant about 2 weeks ago from Going bananas and it is about the same size as Chong's three plants. It was planted in the ground the same day and now I am hoping it doesn't rot or float away since it has been raining in New York for the past 15 out of 16 days. Compared to harveyc's plant it is much shorter but appears to have a larger corm so I can't complain. If it starts to grow I will post pictures.

Bob, today is the first day of what I would call good banana growing weather I've had in about 5 weeks or so. It's a little hot for me (just came in to cool down some from shoveling in my alfalfa field and it's 92F). A couple of days ago was about the first time we hit 80F in June, I believe. We're going to be cooling back down soon, though. My bananas look happy in the heat and light breeze of 1-2mph. Humidity is even kind of high for my area at 30%, must be my sweating!

mm4birds, maybe you should pull yours up and pot them or at least plant them on a mound. You sure woldn't want them to rot in the ground from sitting in water. Might be worth being proactive, though you know your situation better than me.

Chong, Harvey's statement was a subtle inference related to the pups you sent out would be paying dividends to you. This is the source of future pups ..not a commercial supplier.

I'm not talking about pups from Going Bananas. I don't think you should order from them again. I thought you would know that I meant you'd be getting pups from me. The "small" pup you loaned me is hanging in there and should come along soon now that we finally have some warmer weather and, along with my other pup, I should get enough to send you the three pups I promised before year-end. I'll send pups when they've go a few decent leaves and look good. I don't plan to get into the "tag and hold" thing, though.
