Yes, they like full sun and will grow very slowly in partial sun. More importantly plant in a raised bed and use coarse sand around the corm. This way if it rains a lot before the plant has stabilized you can cover the bed so the rain runs off and the corm stays nice & dry. I use corrugated plastic roof panels like the one under this Cincinnini leaf. And never ever tell your Manini she's going to Lower Ohio, it'll scare the white right out of her.

You can also grow them hydroponically in a bucket of water. If you have a few to spare.
