It has only pushed one leaf so far, which is not a good sign, so I check the roots this morning and they're progressing nicely.

This is the advantage of planting in coarse sand, the corm can stay relatively dry while having a moist area away from the corm where the roots can flourish.

The small round dark brown objects are fresh millipede droppings, the advantage of using grass clippings for mulch.
