Visited a club members open house this year a just remembered he was growing the BJ. Went back yesterday and got some pics and several pups. Traded for a big Pisang Klotek sucker.
Check out the narrow leaves, height and the blueness of the 2 bunches on one of the mats. He's got 3 more large mats - lots of pups. |

Tell me why!? Height, stem and fruit color look good. Also fruit shape and size.
That's why I posted the pics before I ship any out. What are they------ True Blue ------- or new compost material? Where is everybody? |

Maybe in a month or less one of those bunches will be closer to ripe and then you'll be able to see "blue"
because Im no expert I can't even begin to toss around my thoughts ...But if there is blue on those bunches its just not showing in the picture. blue can get hidden in the green. so if banamail says Blue then they are blue ... Tonys picture is screaming blue ha hs

Trebor, the blue is there until they ripen, then it looks like white powder over yellow skin.
Did they look more blue in person? Maybe your camera is not capturing the color correctly? |

It would be easier to tell if the male buds were left on, but they look more like Namwahs to me.

Gabe ---- if Tonys pic is the BJ then I have to agree with you cause of fruit shape. The blue fruit have a blunted flower end. The pics I took have a tapered tip just like Namwah.

They are not true Blue Java / Ice Cream. They are Namwah (Pisang Awak). Here's why: they aren't blue enough, the pedicels on the fruit are too short, the fruit are not angular enough, and the pistils are retained on the fruit. Any one of these traits alone might not be enough to confidently distinguish the two plants, but together they make a clear case.

Another false lead to the elusive TRUE Blue Java Ice Cream. If anybody has it, maybe we could have it TC'd by Agristats?
