Hello,
I am new here. I am growing SDC indoor with white led grow lights. I had my first flower in mid december. Now I am getting bananas but they are bit white. It looks like it was choking but the temperature was always above 20 deg C. I cut the pseudostem to expose the bananas hoping they will grow bigger. Welcome! and Congrats on the flower!
Yes definitely looks like a choke! I had one about exactly like that one and cut the stem open and let the bananas out, they are doing ok but are not growing a lot yet. I like how the flower looks, mine just keep getting smaller. This is how mine looked after I cut back a little, cut more to let them out all the way. don't know if I have a picture of it now. [IMG] |

Just like Sarah’s picture looks is how you want! (You have cut some! So a lot of this info is for educational use for others reading this post)
You need to pull the leaves down and back to the side. Don’t cut! Just break them and get them out of the way. They will still be connected and functional vs cutting them! Your leaves may mostly be out of the way. Next take a razor blade or box cutter or sharp knife and cut down about 2” at a time! You want it open enough that the male bud and peduncle will hang down the slit and allow the hands to be outside of the pstem. If they are trapped inside they will never develop! It may seem extreme but you need to cut even more! Not a lot!! Just get that bottom hand outside of the pstem! You can be fairly rough. Just be careful not to cut the leaf connections at the pedicles or on the pstem! No horizontal cuts!!!! Only up and down vertical cuts! Good luck! More light may help also! Led lights do not output a lot light! If you could add a couple CFL daylight bulbs! They are amazing. Also in a southern facing widow is good.
