I have nice, very healthy Siam Ruby 3ft tall with 4 or 5 pops.
I live in zone 6 and soon weather will get cooler. When and how to separate pops? |

For me the plant is not tolerant of splitting this late in the season... Your plant is not cool tolerant and might not recover in the fall for the overwinter in your home( I am being safe for your plants). The pups will do fine if you do NOT split them. You could slip a sharp knife between the main corm and pup just to seperate them while keeping them in the same container and do the final separation in the spring. It is just the same as separating then but not as invasive. Saves on pot space with NO harm to your plant.....all in the same pot. I do that to a few of my plants.....they keep on growing like nothing happened. Here is a photo which might help. ![]() Splitting a plant by Hostafarian, on Flickr ![]() . ![]() Splitting a plant by Hostafarian, on Flickr ![]() . ![]() Untitled by Hostafarian, on Flickr ![]() Last edited by cincinnana : 08-30-2016 at 10:09 PM. |

I always used to just wait and split em in spring when planting. I always brought them out of the basement and gave them a drink and put them outside, bucket and all (Mainly so I could bring them back in in case of frost) for a few weeks before planting, which brings them out of hibernation, too.

What it seems I actually have: Brazilian, Cavendish, Namwah, Dwarf Red, Gros Michel, Pisang Ceylon, Veinte Cohol and SH 3640, and American Goldfinger. FHIA 1, Paggi and FHIA 17... Always room for one more. |
