Default Petioles separating from stalk

I planted a DC about a month ago and it has grown a few new leaves but now the petioles seem to be separating from the main stalk. Is there a sudden growth that has pushed them out or is this a sign of disease, imminent death or rot?

I think it looks OK. If you look at my posting, "Petioles" (in the Banana Identification section) you will see a picture of a DC, posted by Yug. He says DCs have "open" petoles. His picture looks like yours.

They do that sometimes....not sure what causes it. I'd just leave it be. Don't worry about cutting any leaves off or anything unless they turn brown/die. Probably just another one of those things (like splits in the pseudostem) that bananas do when they grow rapidly.

Thanks for all the responses. I will leave it be. I have quite a few growing so i won't be too disappointed if something strange should occur.
