my DC,praying hands,orinoco's all do this...they are healthy and strong...have pups from all and an orinoco flowering as i write...why they do it is a puzzle to me as well...it only seems to do it more on my mats i mulch more with composted clippings...but as i said i have never hade any sort of problem..

I think it looks OK. If you look at my posting, "Petioles" (in the Banana Identification section) you will see a picture of a DC, posted by Yug. He says DCs have "open" petoles. His picture looks like yours.

They do that sometimes....not sure what causes it. I'd just leave it be. Don't worry about cutting any leaves off or anything unless they turn brown/die. Probably just another one of those things (like splits in the pseudostem) that bananas do when they grow rapidly.
