I have a Musa Zebrina Blood Banana and I do have a question.
How hardy is this plant?? I live in zone 7 and would love to leave it outside to grow. i have it in a deep pot but would love to plant it into the ground permanently. Would it be hardy enough, do you think???? ![]() |

Definately not hardy enough for winter. You can plant it outside once your last frost has past and you have temperatures in the high teens. It may grow slowly though, but should be fine.

Well Shucks!!!! i was afraid of that. it really gets to be a nice size when in the ground. If you want to look in my pictures you will see it in ground. It is only banana I have and I love the leaf colors...
Thank you very much for the answer... Charleen |

Would it be able to survive a zone 10a winter? We get freezing temperatures every few years, but it gets close to freezing sometimes.

Also, a good alternative to Zebrina might be Bordelon. I believe it's a lot more cold hardy.

I have zabrina in my yard as well, but mine burn even in filtered light if I plant them as larger, established plants. The pups however, do well (even if the red does burn out a bit on the hottest days). It just seems like the mature plants never aclimate. They don't die for me, just keep on pushing out leaves that get burned spots where ever the light makes it through the trees!
